If you ride a bicycle for about twenty minutes in any direction you are certain to come across at least one of these. They are called Torii (鳥居) and they are the gatewys into Shinto Shrines. This one is on a beautiful road in a part of town called Kami Yo Nai (上米内)

I always knew that the gate to heaven wouldn't be pearly...what a lovely, serene image.
I love how their shrines are situated in such beautiful parks! Very serene and conducive to meditation.
