Let's take a stroll

I often wish I had more time to walk around town and enjoy the return of some really glorious weather. I spent most of the morning making two kinds of soup and pot stickers (gyoza) I love cooking and like to spend time in my kitchen, but Sunday is for meandering.

Morioka is a city of rivers.
Most of the best downtown property sits on the banks of one of three waterways that run through the city. I just happened to be in a hotel hallway a few minutes after dawn and got this shot of empty streets as seen through some unusual latticework on a window.

After I took the picture the words of Langston Hughes echoed in my head

I've known rivers:
I've known rivers ancient as the world and older than the
   flow of human blood in human veins.

My soul has grown deep like the rivers.

I bathed in the Euphrates when dawns were young.
I built my hut near the Congo and it lulled me to sleep.
I looked upon the Nile and raised the pyramids above it.
I heard the singing of the Mississippi when Abe Lincoln
   went down to New Orleans, and I've seen its muddy
   bosom turn all golden in the sunset.

I've known rivers:
Ancient, dusky rivers.

My soul has grown deep like the rivers.
